About Me

About Me

I was raised on PBS, public radio, and the popular stations of my youth
(Mighty690, anyone?).

I spent the bulk of my youth in Issaquah and Seattle, WA., which meant being indoors a lot. I was glued to the radio. I loved the nuances of different voices, which became so familiar to me. Dr. Demento inpsired me and reminded me that it can be fantastic to be weird. Not to mention giving us Weird Al. But I digress…In my late-teens I befriended a few radio djs and never looked back. I went to community college for journalism and communications, I found people who believed in me, and am so incredibly grateful for this career.

In the year 2000, I was a bright-eyed spitfire and budding radio host with high hopes and dreams for my career. The immediate contrast between what I expected and what it was spawned a blog that drew far more attention than I expected.

After some light activism, I was voted the Seattle Times “People’s Choice Favorite Radio DJ” in 2004. I moved to Portland in 2006, worked at 101.1 KUFO and founded the local music show “Viva La Luna.” A few years later, CBS was purchased, the stations were flipped, and we were all laid off. I shifted my focus back to public radio where I could have a much greater impact in my community.

I’ve interviewed and emceed countless events with bands and artists including The White Stripes, Sharon Jones, Mastodon, The Foo Fighters, Arcade Fire, Zero 7, Macklemore, Reggie Watts & Maktub, Ian Karmel, X, Ron Funches, Chris Cornell, and Chuck Palahniuk. I once saw Peter Sagal on the street and asked for a picture. He was amazed that I knew who he was and celebrated my “NPR geekery” in a write up of his Portland visit. I bring over 20 years of experience as a commercial and public radio host, journalist, writer, editor, producer, and podcaster to OPB.

I’ve been at the helm and on the mic for breaking news of world events like 9/11, Aaliyah’s plane crash, the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, Jimmy Carter’s passing, Ozzy Osbourne’s passing, and recently, the attempted deployment of The National Guard to Portland by The Trump Administration.

I’ve been a voiceover artist for two decades. I sing (soprano) and can double myself and harmonize impeccably for jingles with one voice.

I have fronted multiple bands, have been hired to sing scratch tracks for pitches, and on occasion am a singer and soloist for Portland’s Aurora Chorus.
